HR PaperTrail started where most HR software never goes: a California card room floor at 1 a.m. It’s built by operators, for anyone who manages people on the late shift.

Our story
Binders weren’t cutting it.
Running a 24-hour gaming workforce means work permits to renew, dealer errors to document, disputes to sort out — and write-ups that have to stand up to employees, regulators and attorneys, often months after the fact. The paperwork lived in binders, inboxes and a supervisor’s drawer.
So in October 2016, we wrote the first line of the tool we needed. It was built inside Club One Casino in Fresno — a card room owned by Brick HR’s president — by the people who had to use it on the next shift.
That tool became HR PaperTrail, from Brick HR, Inc. It has been shaped ever since by the people who manage hospitality, food and beverage, security, gaming and maintenance teams in California, and by every “what actually happened?” that follows a hard night.
Our mission is to build productivity and peace of mind through tools that make better, more defensible management decisions.
That’s still the job. Every write-up signed on screen, every incident with its witnesses, every license caught before it lapses is one more decision you can stand behind.

Why it exists
The bottom 20% of your staff takes 80% of your time.
Managing people is hard. Even when you make the right call, it gets second-guessed — by employees, by senior management, by agencies and by attorneys. HR PaperTrail exists so the call is documented, consistent and defensible.

The Potential
Good intentions, but they need direction and a manager’s eye.
Kyle has led Club One Casino in Fresno — the card room where HR PaperTrail was built — and has served as president of the California Gaming Association.
He writes about managing people, documentation and the decisions that get second-guessed on the HR PaperTrail blog.
The people who build HR PaperTrail personally follow up with everyone who signs up. Tell us about your floor — your shifts, your licenses, your headaches — and we’ll set up a walkthrough built around it.
